Why YOU Should
JOIN CORVA
The California Off-Road Vehicle
Association is the only "grass roots" membership organization
representing all recreational off-road vehicle users. Whether you ride
motorcycles, 3 or 4 wheelers,
dune buggies, sand rails, 4x4s, SUVs or off-road racing vehicles, CORVA is
protecting your land-use
rights! Since 1968, millions of acres of California's public land have
been closed to off-road
recreationists. Despite the many closures, CORVA has been successful for
over 30 years in keeping
many California riding areas open and appealing those which have closed.
California's public lands are
for the public's use -- off-roaders included. When you join CORVA, you are
joining thousands of
off-roaders who want the same thing..a safe and fun place to ride. We
encourage you to join our
off-roading family, today!
Why Should You Be a CORVA Member?
Because, CORVA Leads the Fight in
California Off-Road Land Use Protection!
CORVA Accomplishments
* In 1971 CORVA engaged the service
of a lobbyist who was instrumental in passing legislation to create the OHV
Green Sticker Fund.
* CORVA has been involved in
conservation and cleanup projects including the recovery and restoration of
the Wood Plank Highway across the Imperial Sand Dunes in 1973.
* In 1982, CORVA was a major sponsor
of the bill to establish the OHV Commission.
* CORVA supported establishment of
the California Desert Coalition (CDC) to preserve desert access.
The CDC was successful in killing the California Desert Protection Act in FOUR
successive sessions of Congress until it finally passed in its 5th session --
one day after the session was scheduled to adjourn in a highly partisan
political maneuver.
* CORVA supported the establishment
of the Off-Road Vehicle Legislative Coalition which has caused the enactment
of significant legislation to benefit the OHV community including the OHV
Trust Fund Bill signed into law by Governor Wilson.
* CORVA has provided forums for
public appearances by two U.S. Senators, one Governor, one State Controller
and numerous members of Congress and the California State Legislature.
* CORVA member, Kurt Hathaway, filed
suit against the State of California involving over $100 million of diverted
special funds (OHV & Boating funds) used to balance the budget from 1991-1994.
The suit was settled on February 15, 1996 and the state will repay the funds
with interest!
* In 1995, CORVA hired (on a
full-time basis) the services of an environmental planner to "litigate ANY
action which affects access to public lands."
* In 1995, CORVA opposed the Western
Mojave Coordinated Mgmt Plan and persuaded BLM and cities and counties
involved that their plan was unacceptable and insisted they start over
with their plan. Collectively, these management plans would have potentially
locked up 7 million more acres into Tortoise habitat.
* In 1996, CORVA inventoried desert
routes for the Northern Eastern Colorado Management Plan and found
approximately 50% of the route designations were left out of the plan.
* CORVA has fought relentlessly
against land closures in the last 25 years which has won us the reputation as
"The Off-Road Political Powerhouse".
CORVA proudly provides its
members...
* 37 years of
continuous promotion of multiple land use objectives!
* Continuous appeals of unfair and unjust closure of access to public
lands!
* Extensive oversight of the California OHV "Green Sticker" Fund and OHMVR
Commission
* OFF-ROADERS IN ACTION Subscription to keep you informed of off-road
legislative
battles affecting your sport!
* League of Off-Highway Voters' Voting Guide!
* Membership Kit with I.D. card & decal!
